Varberg - Holidays on the west coast
Varberg is a charming coastal town located in Halland, south of Gothenburg. The city offers a variety of activities and attractions that attract both locals and tourists. Here are some highlights:
Varberg Fortress – This impressive fortress, built in the 13th century, is one of the city's most famous landmarks. The fortress offers a fascinating insight into the region's history and offers stunning views of the city and the sea.
Apelviken – Apelviken is a popular destination for both surfers and bathers. It is one of the best sandy beaches in Sweden and offers a charming small-town atmosphere. Apelviken is more than just a beach, it's a whole destination with camping, hotels, cabins, two restaurants, swimming pool and lots of activities. It is only one and a half kilometers from central Varberg, so you can easily cycle or walk to the square and the harbour.
Varbergs Kallbadhus – Varbergs Kallbadhus is a historic building that has existed since 1903. It is an impressive sight, offering a chance to take a dip in the water, a visit to the sauna or just enjoy a coffee in the café. It is an excellent photo opportunity in this scenic spot. The tradition of cold and hot baths goes back a long way in Varberg. Even if you don't want to swim, it's just as nice to just have a coffee and enjoy the architecture.
Getterön nature reserve - Getterön is a beautiful nature reserve that offers many different hiking trails and fantastic views of the sea. It is known as one of Northern Europe's best birding locations. The wetlands are a veritable eldorado for bird watchers and nature lovers.
Varberg Art Gallery – Varberg Art Gallery is a place where you can see many exciting exhibitions by both local and international artists. The art gallery is located in the heart of the city in a building called the Komedianten, and there is also space for a public library and a café.
Varbergs golf club - Varbergs golf club is a beautiful golf course located right by the sea. The club has two fantastic golf courses, East and West, and you can even live on the courses. Västra Banan has large greens and is in a nature with heath character. The eastern course is a beautiful forest and park course by the magical Grimsjön. The challenge here is small undulating greens and in places narrow from the tee.
Surfing – Varberg is known as one of the best surfing spots in Sweden, especially in Apelviken. Here you can rent surfboards and wetsuits, and there are also surfing lessons for both beginners and more experienced surfers. Apelviken is more than just a beach, it's a whole destination with camping, hotels, cabins, two restaurants, swimming pool and lots of activities. Summer activities and events – Varberg is a lively town, especially during the summer months. Skateboard parks - Varberg has several skateboard parks where both beginners and experienced skaters can practice their tricks. One of the most popular is Rödabergsparken, which has a variety of ramps, railings and other obstacles. There is also a smaller skateboard park at Påskbergsskolan, which is perfect for beginners.
